January 2010
It's been a hard winter so far, I think possibly harder on humans than on horses, my observations are horses don't mind dry, cold weather or even snow.........in moderation!! What they really don't like is torrential rain and high winds. All of this year we have struggled to get them water as everything was frozen solid!!! At last at 4 O'Clock today the water trough on the bottom yard came back to life. Automatic drinkers and troughs possibly save 3hrs a day, it's surprising how much the little blighters can drink when you have to haul it around in 25 litre containers!!! No sooner you fill the drinker it's empty again!!! At least the days are getting slightly longer now so when the sun manages to poke it's nose through we have got more chance of things warmer up. I know we still have a long way to go yet as we are never sure when the winter is going to end and the spring going to start, if the last few years are anything to go by the only difference between the seasons is that in the summer it's warm and wet and in the winter it's cold and wet!!! I feel that 2010 is going to be a good year we have the Equine Market Watch Demo on the 26th and 27th June with lots going on we are working it on a slightly different format this year and everyone is welcome, it's going to be a fun weekend with horses being the main but you don't need to own one or ride you just need to like them to enjoy this weekend. I have also been invited to do a 4 day clinic in Germany in the spring this will be based on Natural Horsemanship but for those of you that know me that means working with the horse using the minimum amount of effort to achieve your goal, some people might call it lazy horsemanship but whatever it's working with and in harmony with your horse, with trust and respect on both sides. If you are interested in giving a talk, demonstration, having a stall or just want to attend the Demo or have any enquiries/queries please E-Mail nick@rowanoaklivery.co.uk
